What do you wish for?

A new year had just arrived and as a tradition, we all like to make wishes and new years's resolutions. But how can you make it right? Here are some tips on how to use the verb WISH:

1 - According Raymond Murphy, we can use WISH in different situations:

a) To complain about things people do repeatedly:

Ex: I wish you would stop complaining about Teresina's weather, it's hot and it'll always be.

b) For actions and changes (not situations):

Ex: I wish my friends would come to my birthday = It means: I want them to come.

2 - But don't forget!

* You say: I wish Jason were here.
(not Jason was!)

* You say: I wish I had a car.
(not I wish I would have...)

3 - I WISH TO - can mean the same as "I want to", by it's very formal and not very common to listen people using it.

Ex: I wish to see the principal

4 - WISH- Can be used with a noun and it refers to good wishes:

Ex: We wish you a merry Christmas
I wish you nothing but the best

5 - However, the real use of WISH is to talk about things that we would like to be different from the reality, like, we have regrets about the current situation.

Ok, now that you know how to use WISH, the question is:

                 WHAT DO YOU WISH FOR?

A- The genie in the bottler, as the tale is told, you can ask for three wishes. For 2013 what would they be?

B - Famous SONGS ABOUT WISHES:

My favorite: I wish I could fly - Roxette:

A sad wish for Phil Collins on this one: I wish it could rain down

A classic one by Pink Floyd - Wish you were here

Deep wishes are made by Pearl Jam on - Wishlist
